What Will Santa Do Without the North Pole?
Our destruction of our planet has come to the point that we have to wonder where Santa will live? Where will he go with his army of elves, reindeer and the need for real estate enough to put him deep into a 150-year mortgage? As we sit less than a week away from Christmas, we are forced to consider what Christmas will look lie in decades to come. At the current are we are looking at an overall increase of 3–5 degrees Celsius by the year 2100. That would mean that we will live in a world constantly struck by natural disasters. Imagine, flooding, droughts, excessive rainfall, landslides and much more constantly endangering every single species on the planet.
Not a good holiday thought, right? So this Holiday season, we want to suggest a few ways in which you can observe sustainable and responsible habits.
Take the Train
If your travel plans and circumstances allow for it, then consider getting the train to wherever you are going to meet family. Sometimes we jump in the car without thinking about the option of public transport even if it is convenient. Trains are much less hassle and even if for those few days you can feel good that you made a sensible choice for yourself our future generations.
Recycle, Please
We have a number of gift deliveries coming in at this time of the year which means tons of packaging to take care of. This is a great opportunity to stick to your resolve of recycling through the year. Most people get frustrated and give up around the holidays as there is so much else to do and it is all so important that recycling feels like the last thing you w
ant to think about. Keep a big bag where you can dump it all as it comes so you don’t have to separate things later and the choice will make itself.
Light up With LEDs
We all love to decorate with lights this time of the year but you may be pleased to hear that if you use LED lights, you will not only save energy but will also save on your energy bill for the month. Better yet, you can also gift them to your friends and family as a sneaky “suggestion”. You can also set a timer on your lights so they come on in the evening and stay on for a certain amount of time. After all, we are not always gathered around our Christmas tree so it may be best to have it lit up only for the time you expect to spend around it.
